A Note from the Artist:

The rhino was one of my earliest adventures in digital drawing, probably only my second picture after the tiger.

I was experimenting with Procreate and discovered a wonderfully named brush called Old Skin.  It seemed absolutely perfect for capturing the thick, textured hide of a rhinoceros and I loved the effect it created.

Looking back, there’s one little detail I’d change.  I gave my rhino rather long eyelashes, which ended up hiding the highlights in his eyes.  It’s something I notice every time I look at the picture!

But that’s part of the joy of learning to draw.  Every picture teaches you something new and this one reminds me of those early days of discovering what I could do with digital art.
