A note from the Author
Hope Helps with Mindfulness began as a little challenge I set myself. I wanted to create a colouring book for adults, but I also wanted to see just how much detail and imagination I could bring to each illustration.
I thoroughly enjoyed drawing these pages. Some became particular favourites, especially the dolphins and mermaids and the camper van scene. Each picture gave me the opportunity to escape into my own imagination for a while.
But one of the loveliest moments came when a lady returned to my market stall a month after buying the book.
When she’d first bought it, she’d told me she didn’t really know what mindfulness was and had never done any colouring before.
This time, she arrived with her book and proudly showed me every single page, beautifully coloured in.
We sat together and went through them all. Then she said something I’ll never forget.
“I’ve found mindfulness in my conservatory. And I need another book!”
I laughed and explained that I had only created one mindfulness book so far, but promised I would write another for her.
“Oh no,” she replied. “I can’t wait that long!”
So she bought Hope’s First Christmas instead.
That encounter meant more to me than she probably realised. Here was someone who had discovered something new, found real enjoyment in it and returned wanting to carry on.
And perhaps that’s what mindfulness is really about. Finding something that allows us to slow down, become absorbed in the moment and enjoy a little peace in our day.
I hope these pages bring you as much pleasure as they brought her.
