A little kindness, a little curiosity, and a little Hope.
I don’t believe life has to be complicated to be meaningful.
Sometimes the things that matter most are the simplest like a kind word, a shared memory, a good story, a picture that makes you smile or a moment when you realise you’re not quite as alone in your thoughts as you imagined. That’s really what Hope’s Books is about.
A place where everyone is welcome
I wanted to create somewhere that feels friendly. Somewhere you can wander around without being hurried, explore something unfamiliar, have a little laugh or discover something that makes you feel or stop and think.
You don’t have to be a particular age, have a particular interest or know exactly what you’re looking for. You can simply come in and have a look.
There’s no right way to enjoy a book, no correct response to a piece of artwork and certainly no requirement to understand everything.
Sometimes it’s enough that something just makes you feel something.
Creativity belongs to everyone
I’ve loved drawing, painting, imagining and making things for as long as I can remember and I’ve always felt that art shouldn’t be something only a fortunate few can afford.
As a child, I remember saving my money to buy a poster from Athena. It was of a red stiletto and I loved it. I couldn’t afford original paintings but I could have a beautiful picture on my wall and I loved it.
I’ve never forgotten that feeling.
That’s why you’ll find different ways to enjoy my artwork here. Some people might choose a lovely print for their home, while others might prefer a mug, a jigsaw or a little gift.
The important thing isn’t how much something costs. It’s whether it brings somebody pleasure.
I’d much rather see my artwork enjoyed in a hundred homes than sitting somewhere waiting for one person who can afford it.
Learning should be an adventure
I believe we’re all learning, all the time.
Children learn through play, stories, questions and discoveries. Adults learn through experience, reflection, mistakes and sometimes through the unexpected things life throws at us.
And older generations have a lifetime of stories and memories worth celebrating.
That’s why Hope’s Books doesn’t fit neatly into one category.
There are adventures for children, books that encourage mindfulness and self-discovery and journeys into the past that bring old memories back to life.
Different books, different people, different stages of life.
But all connected by curiosity.
A little kindness can change a day
I think the world could always do with a little more kindness.
Not grand gestures or complicated promises. Just ordinary, everyday kindness.
Listening when somebody needs to talk. Giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Being patient. Remembering that we rarely know the whole story of another person’s life.
Perhaps remembering to be a little kinder to ourselves, too.
We all have difficult days. We all make mistakes. We all have moments when things don’t go quite as planned.
That doesn’t mean we’ve failed. It simply means we’re human.
I hope that somewhere among these books, pictures and little gifts, you’ll find something that makes one of those days a little easier.
Made with imagination, not perfection
Everything here begins with an idea, usually followed by a great deal of enthusiasm, a few wrong turns and quite possibly a Cocker Spaniel demanding attention.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers.
I’m still learning, still experimenting and still discovering what I can create.
And I rather like it that way.
Hope’s Books is an independent little business, built with imagination, care and the belief that it’s never too late to try something new.
Some things will make you laugh. Others might make you think. A few might even make you see something differently.
But whatever you discover here, I hope you feel welcome.
Because at the heart of everything I create is one very simple thought:
Life is better when we share a little of what makes us happy.
And, of course…
Everyone needs a little Hope in their lives.
