A Note from the Artist:

There’s something about the eyes of a big cat that I find absolutely fascinating.

With this leopard, I wanted to concentrate on the face, particularly those beautiful, piercing eyes.

I love the contrast between the softness of the fur and the intensity of the leopard’s gaze. Every marking, every change of colour and every tiny detail contributes to the character of the animal.

One of the things I enjoy most about digital drawing is building up those details gradually, watching a face begin to emerge from the canvas.

The Amur leopard is an extraordinary creature, but also one of the world’s rarest big cats.  Its survival is a reminder of how fragile even the most magnificent animals can be.

For me, this picture is about more than creating a beautiful image.  It’s about encouraging people to stop, look and appreciate the incredible wildlife with which we share our planet.

I hope those wonderful eyes catch your attention every time you pick up your mug.
