A Note from the Artist:

There’s something truly magical about the underwater world.  It’s an entirely different environment, filled with extraordinary creatures, beautiful colours and a sense of wonder.

Whale sharks fascinate me because of the contrast between their enormous size and their gentle nature.

I love their beautiful spotted patterns, the way their enormous bodies seem to move effortlessly through the water and the extraordinary scale of these magnificent animals.

In this picture, I included divers swimming alongside the whale sharks.  I wanted to show just how enormous these creatures really are and how small we humans appear beside them.

For me, that sense of scale is part of the wonder of the natural world.

Despite their size, whale sharks are vulnerable to human activity, including fishing, boat strikes and pollution.

Creating this artwork was a way of celebrating their beauty and reminding people that even the largest creatures on our planet need our protection.

I hope this picture brings a little of the magic of the ocean into your everyday life.
